As a child I hated reading until I discovered the Lensman series. I must have read that series four or five times now.

Comment on The Wild Palms Hotel

Dave

Oh, I hate that one. The Joie De Vivre closer to the office is much nicer.

As I recall they've got internet that runs through some absurd captive portal that injects spam/ads into web pages. Hopefully that service has at least gone away.

Never stay at a '... bar and hotel'. And the full name of that place is Wild Palms Bar and Hotel.

kioopi

That was exactly what i was searching for. This is quite hacky but does the job. thank you.

i ended up changing:
new_lines.append('%s<gr:annotation>%s</gr:annotation>%s' %(...)
to:
new_lines.append('%s<annotation>%s</annotation>%s' %(...)

The whole thing might need revisiting for the case of multiple annotatins to an entry.

Thanks again, your entry has been a great help!

cheers
Matt Bottrell

Hi Michael,

Take a read through the docs on Launchpad (https://help.launchpad.net/).

Here are some answers to some of your questions:

1. Speak to the Launchpad team. Can you join it?
2. Read up on : https://help.launchpad.net/Bugs
3. Take a look at #1 - Get ownership first.
4. Welcome to the world of idiot users. You'll pickup more Karma the more you use Launchpad.
5. External SVN repo: Try https://help.launchpad.net/Code/Imports

Comment on MythNetTV release 7

Michael Still

Let me get this straight -- everything works, except your uPnP player is relying on the file extension to determine the file type? There currently isn't any way to add a string to the end of the filename in the MythTV recordings directories, but it wouldn't be hard to do. Let me meditate on it.

Benjamin Pierce

Is there a way to add a filename to a file downloaded before it get's imported into mythtv? My problem is that the videos that I download don't have an extension but transcoding is not needed. This works fine for mythfrontend, but does not allow my upnp server to pick them up properly.

Sure, the problem was the barcode scanner wouldn't the little barcode was there. The intern sorted it out though, once more proving is worth to my random private projects. Strong hire.

Comment on Deathworld One

WhoMe42

Wow! This brings back memories of my misspent youth! Yes... Jason dinAlt! I have fond memories. :)

I was an avid SciFi reader (Still am actually, just less time these days). I read these in the 70's and spent the next decade or so buying every Harry Harrison book I could get my hands on (amongst several other SciFi authors).

There are in fact 6 books in the Deathworld series, but the recent 3 publications are in Russian only and there are no plans to translate them into English (according to HH's blog) sadly! :(

Ahem. I actually came here because I just bought your ImageMagic Book and thought I'd grab the code to play with (because I'm a typically lazy developer). :D I have a project that I think ImageMagic & Coppermine will be suitable for.

Anyway, thanks for the very useful ImageMagic book and the great memories! I hope you enjoy the Deathword Trilogy as I did, and The Stainless Steal Rat also. Currently, I'm a big fan of Sir Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. :)

I'm an Aussie BTW, Melb.
Cheers,
Paul.

Matt Bottrell

I think it has more to do with the rise of China (and to some extent India) that we're seeing in Asia.

Move $$$s that flow into these countries is likely to strip money away from the US.... and thus less on their milatry budgets.

Remember also, 2/5 ths of the world's population is either Chinese or Indian!

Richard

Great program, kind of dangerous, especially when feeds like TED don't truncate their feed. Not sure where my time went. One feature would be nice to add though. The option of choosing whether or not to transcode a particular feed. The HubbleCast and Spitzer podcast are both avc1, which by default you transcode. Those HD feeds tend to look rather bad after transcoding, and they play just fine without. I've hacked the source to skip transcoding for avc1. On the other hand, I do have some feeds which stutter towards the end that would probably benefit from transcoding. I also have some mov files that need transcoding, but aren't by default. Letting the user toggle transcode on or off for a feed would be quite nice.

Dave James

Comcast is simply a thick-net (i.e -> old generation, low bandwidth crap) provider of deficient internet and television services.

Their HD programming is compressed and has the lowest quality on the market.

Speed Boost is joke too. You'll never see a sustained 20 meg download!

The real truth is that Comcast is crap!!

It must be thirty years ago that Isaac gave me my first appreciation of the Short Story as one of the best forms of literature.

The Last Question is still an unbeaten classic of the genre.
