| AUUG 2006 Slack talk |
I gave a talk on how Google deploys software configuration to machines at AUUG 2006, and this reminded me to put the slide deck and paper online. So, here they are: slides in PowerPoint and PDF, as well as the conference paper.
Update: Now with URLs that are correct! Sorry for the cut and paste error...

Ahh, sorry about that. I've fixed the URLs. Thanks for pointing it out.
To answer your other question, getupdates is more about OS packages than slack. Getupdates is a lot like "apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade" (but smarter than that). Slack is about software configuration, and doesn't touch parts of the machine not relevant to that slack role.
Is that clearer?

You are, single-handedly, responsible for zombies' server being slashdotted (See benley's comment in http://linux.slashdot.org/linux/06/10/17/1721224.shtml)

Hi Michael, I think you linked to your NSLU2 slides again here. I look forward to seeing the new ones!

I found the files, the PowerPoint link was correct but the others weren't. I have a question for you, however: does the slack tool bear any relation to the getupdates tool that Marc Merlin has used at Google? Has it superceded getupdates or does it do a similar job in a different way? Thanks for the information you have uploaded!
