A pretty good day

Well, a pretty good day yesterday, all things considered. Got up a little bit earlier than normal at 5:15am (that's about 45 minutes before normal), as Catherine and I had to get out the National Capital Private Hospital for Catherine's operation. We got there by about 6:30am, and by 8:30 Catherine was being wheeled into the operating theatre, and I was on my way home.

Catherine had her gall bladder out because of gall stones. She's the youngest person I've heard of needing the oepration, at a mere 24. We think she's had them for a while too, as looking back we can spot symptoms years ago. The last couple of weeks have been interesting because she's been in so much pain that she's had troubles minding the children when I've been at work.

Went home and minded the kids all day by myself (I've so brave!). This was made a lot easier by the fact that the kids were really good for me. I'm very pleased with them.

Catherine rang when she woke up, and sounds fine. We visiting in the afternoon, and apart from being tired and having four incisions in her belly, she's fine. Give her a couple of weeks, and she'll be better than ever.

My archive of the aus-dotnet list got noticed by the list today. This has to be the funniest response. Note the employer in the last one.

The kids didn't sleep as well as usual tonight, I suspect because mummy wsn't here.

My daughter has been diagnosed with Gallstones, she has about 25, the largest being 1.25cms. She is 11 years old and I have been trying to convince doctors for years as I myself have had gallstones. Jessica will be going into Westmead childrens hospital on Wednesday the 18th May for Gallbladder removal. I have never heard of them in a child before.

I really believe that i may be the youngest person to have gallstones removed. I was eight at the time and i had about fifteen stones removed all about the size of a peppercorn. There was never any explanation given as to why this happened although when i was eighteen i had to have a liver transplant as it was found i was suffering froma rare blood condition. I have always wondered if the two were connected in some way as the doctors have never been able to explain.

I just recently got my gallbladder removed and I am 18. I think its strange that young people get this because it takes decades for gallstones to develope. I wish that there would be more studies conducted about this situation to help those who already or who in the future might have to undergo this kind of surgery. At first I thought I was the youngest person to have this happen to because i had never heard of it. But i wonder if there is a better explenation of why this happens to people at such a younge age. genetic?

I just would like to let everyone know that I myself had mine removed when I was a baby just 20 Months Old , and I am now 15 years old and still asking myself the same question- how and why? Maybe it could be genetic as my Grandmother had hers removed this year, but i still don't fully understand how young people get gallstones.

I was diagnosed recently through blood tests and ultra sound with gall stones up to 1.7 cm, my doctor referred me to a surgeon who of course suggested having the gall bladder taken out with key hole surgery. I spoke to my naturopath who gave me a course of action to expel the stones safely and without pain, it took some diligence and I have completed this just this morning, passing approximately 30 stones. NO SURGERY and my gall bladder still in tact. I suggest we all do some homework before reaching for the knife!

I was 18 when I had mine removed, I was a senior in hs. I think I was sick for 3 yrs until my mother finally realized I was not faking to stay home from school. I had 1 big stone and instead of taking only a couple hours to remove my gallbladder it took 5. The surgeon that removed my gallbladder puts his patients on a specail diet before surgery that is suppose to relax your bladder. This was back in 83 when I had mine removed I was in the hospital for 1 week

I am 14 and i havn't had my gallstones removed yet i just recently went to the doctors and had an altrasound and i have over 25 gallstones that are like sand in my gallbladder. im not sure if i should get the stones removed or the whole gallbladder or just leave them... i have mild pain often but what if i get the surgery and it doesnt help.. it probably would but i reallly dont like the idea of surgery. Has the surgery helped any of you?

Hey, yea I had my gallblatter removed when I was 13 and I was twelve when the stones started to develop. He was I was the youngest person in md to get it done( don't kno if its true)but the doctor was overwhelmed by it it seems.they thought it was my liver at first. The pain was terrible until the surgery but everybody in my family gets them removed at some point. My dear departed aunt had it when she was 17.
