Well, after 2 hours of sweat and worry I’ve
finally got my new machine working the way the old one used to. As I said earlier, I uninstalled all MS products
directly related to .NET development, except for VS2005 (I’m not going
through that tonight!). All the old I downloaded the latest copies I could find and
reinstalled in this order: VS2005 Documentation (NOT MSDN) – Composite
Application Block - Visual Studio 2005 extensions for .NET Framework 3.0 (WCF
& WPF) November 2006 CTP - Enterprise Library May 2007 – Guidance
Automation Extensions – Guidance Automation Toolkit - Smart Client
Software Factory May 2007. The final vital step failed with a cryptic
message that Visual Basic projects were not available. I eventually realised
that I had reinstalled VS2005 last year and for some reason had decided to skip
VB (I suppose hadn’t used VB for 3 years). I ran a repair setup and put
VB back. Now I can File>New create a Smart Client
Application, add Business and Foundation Modules, and the solution explorer
context menu includes a Smart Client Factory menu to add Views, WPF Views and
Disconnected Service Agents. Cheers, Greg Keogh |
